Biotechnology is a science of 21st Century in which biological systems along with technology are employed for the betterment of mankind. Biotechnology is a multidisciplinary field involving Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular biology, Genetics, Immunology, Fermentation, Bioprocess, Tissue Culture, Bioinformatics and Agriculture, to name just a few and has a major impact on basic human needs engendered in the market segment of healthcare, agriculture, food ingredient, industry, energy mining, pollution control and bioelectronics. Innovation in health care aimed at very high value therapeutic proteins are currently in the forefront and crop improvements comes a far second.
After completing the course in Biotechnology students can make their future in various fields of life sciences like research in Drug discovery, Pharmaceutical Industries, Food industry, Agriculture industry, Beverage industry, Fermentation industry, Biofuel research and various bioproduct industries.
With this in mind the department is providing B.Tech degree in Biotechnology, including various courses like: Microbiology, Cell Biology, Heat & Mass Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Recombinant DNA Technology & Molecular Genetics, Analytical Techniques, Biochemistry, and Bioinformatics. Presently Veteran Dr.B.D Bulchandani heads the department along with a team of well qualified, enthusiastic, experienced faculty members.
As a part of B.Tech Curriculum during eighth semester students are trained at various reputed Institutes, Research Organizations and Industries for a period of 4 to 5 months. Besides during the various semester students are trained for different cutting edge technologies like bioinformatics and other programming languages useful for carrying out individual projects so that they are industry ready by the time they come out of the portals of this premier technological institute. |
